Planning Your Speech

Very very few people can speak off the cuff. However, to do impromptu speeches, it takes tremendous experience, skill and a great ability to recall and piece things together quickly. If you do not plan the speech... likely thing is that you will be a nervous wreck and may also have the last opportunity to be invited to speak again. The audience can measure the level of confidence in the speaker if you fail to plan his speech.

Before you write your speech, plan to do the following.
1. Identify and write down the objective of the speech to be delivered
2. Get more information of the audience you are speaking to and the time alloted.
3. Let your thoughts flow creatively. Do not hold back on any idea which come to mind.
4. From the many ideas that you have, decide on the few ideas which will help you achieve your objective of the speech to be delivered.

So....... DO NOT BLOW your first chance to speak to any group. PLAN! PLAN! PLAN!

The Only Reason to Give a Speech is to Change the World. This, I read from a book by Nick Morgan about Audience-Centred Speaking.

How does a Speaker on stage change the world? The speeches by Presidents, Prime Ministers or Heads of States do influence how a nation thinks, changes and moves and then the ripple effect can happen, and it does change the world somewhat. When the CEO of a corporation speaks to address an annual convention, he speaks to shift the paradigm of the employees, from top management to way down to the rank and file. In most of these speeches, it is to help move the individual, corporation, nation or world forward.... especially in the midst of so much uncertainty.

Speakers have to know their audiences. They have to know the audience's needs, why are they there at the convention or gathering. A good speaker has to work the ground and come up with what the audience wants to hear, that will move them forward in life. It is about changing a life, charging the mind, and let them affect the world.

The next time you hear someone speak on stage, listen carefully. Appreciate every word and sentence that has been carefully chosen and put together. They want to help change the World.

Motivational and Inspirational Speaker

Somehow people are motivated or inspired by messages, stories, speeches delivered by professional speakers.

I was at the National Achievers Congress in Singapore a number of times. Most of the good speakers have great stories to tell. They speak with emotion, they are able to deliver a simple message but yet so profound if one takes time to reflect on it.

Someone asked me who is my favourite motivational or inspirational speaker I have heard so far. Well, there are number of people whom I have come across. From each, is a different thought sown, a point well taken and reflected upon, and a new objective set for my business, a great story to be stored in my memory to be shared with someone else whom I can pass it on to one day. From each, is that individual charisma and strength, and of course a personal message.

To be an accomplished speaker, there is much to work on. I hope to be one good speaker on stage one day. However, this will take time. It will require opportunities to practice on stage. At this stage, I have gone for some voice training, learning to read clearly and with proper tones, pitches, etc....and gathering information how each professional speaker has reached their professional stage in speaking. If I am planning to speak confidently on stage one day, I need to start somewhere.

Inexpensive Hobbies

There are all kinds of hobbies in this world.
From a very inexpensive hobby to one that involves millions of dollars.

Reading is an inexpensive hobby. In Singapore we have a great collection of books in the National Library. Some of the good books are found in the University Libraries. If you like reading, there are so much one can do with the knowledge and information which have been acquired over the years. Some will start collecting Quotes from some famous people and compile them. Some will do book summaries or reviews. From some books on mystery, love story, children stories....some know how to share the principles and values gathered from reading those books. It takes a person of perseverance to continually and consistently write and write whenever he or she finished reading a book. It is going to be a wealth of collection.

I know of someone who journals the events that surround her children's lives. Over the years, either a daily or weekly record of what the children have gone through is kept in a diary. She also keep a diary of her own year after year. This is in someway a hobby, because time is set aside to fulfil a task which she likes to do.

Some like sports, for example soccer. They avid supporters of certain football clubs. They spend time to follow all matches played in England, Germany, Brazil, and any place in the world where good soccer matches are played. They know the soccer world inside out, and they are enthusiastic about it, and know the game, players, etc...so very well.

Care to share some inexpensive hobbies? I believe you will have yours to share too.

Your Hobbies and You

Anyone like me and you would have a hobby or a favourite pastime which will cause you to spend countless hours pursuing it until you get the desired result or satisfaction you are looking for.

According to Collins Dictionary, a Hobby is something that you enjoy doing in your spare time....and a Pastime is something that you do because you enoy it or are interested in it.
Whether it is a hobby or pastime, the interest you need to have in doing it is so very important.

Have you thought of what hobbies, pastimes or special interests you have? I have numerous...photography, music, art, singing, working on my voice, reading motivational and inspirational stories, visiting the library in search of good books to read, networking with people, surfing the internet....the list goes on and on.

Come to think of it, if you spend time to reflect and write it down, you should have a list of hobbies, but it is impossible to give equal time for all. Before I was married, I spent countless hours with my camera capturing special moments in Singapore and overseas (where I was working) like the USA, Japan, Thailand, etc...invested in photographic equipment, and even had my own darkroom to develop my own photographs. As a teenager (years back), I was shuttle crazy that I went up close to Pele (world famous footballer) and caught him volleying a football in front of a crowd at Toa Payoh Stadium. Time has changed, and today I am very interested in what is happening on the internet. I have also learnt to blog some months ago, and will share with you more to help you and others open up, or trigger some thoughts to share their hobbies on-line....and maybe turn it into an Income.
